Tyrosine seems to be safe when taken into the mouth in doses up to 150 mg/kg per day for 3 months. Some people are experiencing the side effects such as headache, nausea, heartburn and fatigue.

Women with PKU who are pregnant or breastfeeding are advised to consume foods providing 6-7.6 grams of tyrosine daily. A doctor will measure the levels of tyrosine in the blood will make sure they don’t become too low and high. For most of the people with the PKU additional separate supplementation with free l-tyrosine benefits and side effects is not being recommended. It will cause the wide variations in the amount of tyrosine in the blood. This will cause the unwanted side effects.
It is not recommended to take this product with levodapa as it can decrease its absorption in the body and hence its effectiveness. It also interacts with thyroid hormones and increases the production of these hormones in the body.
